Programme Overview

The Simulation Toolkit is a comprehensive training programme designed for University staff to enhance their understanding and application of Simulation-Based Learning (SBL).  

The programme consists of four structured sessions, each focusing on key aspects of SBL. Each session will run between 2 to 4 hours, incorporating interactive discussions, case studies, and hands-on practice. This programme aligns with the Association for Simulated Practice in Healthcare (ASPiH) Standards to ensure best practices in simulation-based education. 

Certification

A certificate of completion will be awarded at the end of the programme (11 hrs CPD), with the option be enrolled onto the debriefing effectively programme for continued development. 

The expectation is for staff to attend all sessions. 

This session:

• Principles of scenario design and structure 

• Writing clear learning objectives and expected outcomes 

• Selecting appropriate levels of fidelity and realism 

• Incorporating decision-making and problem-solving elements 

• Practical workshop: Participants work together to design a simulation scenario 

• Alignment with ASPiH Standards: Scenario design principles, educational effectiveness, and fidelity selection. 

Target Audience: 

• All new staff (on appropriate courses using simulation strategies) 

• Academic staff involved in simulation-based teaching 

• Clinical educators / AL’s supporting SBL 

• Technicians supporting simulation activity 

• Any staff interested in integrating SBL into their teaching practice. 

• This programme aims to build confidence and competence in using simulation as a powerful learning tool, ensuring alignment with ASPiH Standards and UK higher education and professional standards.
