Programme Overview

The Simulation Toolkit is a comprehensive training programme designed for University staff to enhance their understanding and application of Simulation-Based Learning (SBL).  

The programme consists of four structured sessions, each focusing on key aspects of SBL. Each session will run between 2 to 4 hours, incorporating interactive discussions, case studies, and hands-on practice. This programme aligns with the Association for Simulated Practice in Healthcare (ASPiH) Standards to ensure best practices in simulation-based education. 

Certification

A certificate of completion will be awarded at the end of the programme (11 hrs CPD), with the option be enrolled onto the debriefing effectively programme for continued development. 

The expectation is for staff to attend all sessions. 

This session:

• The role of the facilitator in SBL 

• Creating a psychologically safe learning environment 

• Techniques for guiding learners through simulation scenarios 

• Importance of debriefing in reflective learning 

• An exploration of different debriefing models 

• How to debrief with good judgement 

• Hands-on practice: Facilitating and debriefing a simulation session 

• Alignment with ASPiH Standards: Competence in facilitation, psychological safety, effective debriefing techniques. 

Target Audience: 

• All new staff (on appropriate courses using simulation strategies) 

• Academic staff involved in simulation-based teaching 

• Clinical educators / AL’s supporting SBL 

• Technicians supporting simulation activity 

• Any staff interested in integrating SBL into their teaching practice. 

• This programme aims to build confidence and competence in using simulation as a powerful learning tool, ensuring alignment with ASPiH Standards and UK higher education and professional standards.
